Amber Mines
About the Location: Carved deep into the mountains of Gooley Island, the Amber Mines are a glittering labyrinth of twisting tunnels and ancient chambers. Their entrance is surrounded by a wide moat lined with enchanted stone—runes that unleash bursts of electric energy at anyone who tries to scale the walls. Because of this magical defense, all visitors are funneled through a single guarded bridge, where entry is tightly controlled. The mines are operated by a reclusive race of deep gnomes—brilliant engineers and fierce protectors of their domain. They allow few outsiders to enter, and only those who pass their trials are granted access to the mine's heart. Within, amber pulses with arcane potential, drawing traders, spellcasters, and treasure-seekers alike. But the greatest riches lie beyond the raw amber: forgotten relics, buried ruins, and echoes of a civilization swallowed by stone. For those willing to brave the traps and tests, the Amber Mines promise power, mystery, and no shortage of peril.
Terrain Outline: This battle map uses two levels, with the water tiles situated at a lower elevation. The yellow teleportation circle is the player entry point and the pink teleportation circle leads to the arena. The green-roofed buildings are enclosure tiles, while the white border represents wall tiles. The brown cliff edges are climbing tiles. The white walls with protruding white stones are special terrain tiles: any creature that attempts to climb them immediately takes 1d8 electric damage. If the damage taken is 2 or more, the creature is knocked back to the nearest water tile and their movement ends.
Quest Briefing: Not long ago, a group of bandits broke into the Amber Mines and made off with a cart full of enchanted jewels. But as they attempted their escape, the moat’s arcane defenses activated—blasting their cart at the bridge’s edge and scattering the stolen goods into the waters below. Most of the treasure was recovered by the deep gnomes, but the most valuable relics of all—the Amber Hearts—were never found. Rumors say they sank into the moat's depths, hidden beneath the electric-charged walls. Few dare to search the waters, but the gnomes are offering a handsome reward to anyone bold enough to retrieve one the lost Heart.
